Verification of Microsoft digital file signatures

Microsoft signs all main (critical) Windows components and known files of its partner software companies, such as Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Hewlett-Packard, VMware and others.

  • If a file has a signature and it is verified – the record is trusted.
  • If a file has a signature, but it didn’t pass verification – the file has been modified. Most probably (but not necessarily) it was done by malicious software.
  • If a file has no signature, it should be analyzed in a different way – for instance, check it using the online scanner.
