Online scanner

CESAM is not only a powerful startup manager, but an online antivirus application as well. The fusion of these two technologies gives you the following substantial advantages:

First of all, the application will only check those files and system components that are really loaded by your operating system. This significantly reduces the scanning time. A system check without sending unknown files will not take less than two minutes.

Secondly, the online database gives you an opportunity to always have up-to-date information about applications. Even if the database is slightly changed, you don’t have to wait for the update and then download it. The changes will be applied right away. If one of our analysts marked one of the files that you submitted a minute ago as “malware” and you ran another round of scanning, the application will now recognize the file as malware! That’s what we call real time operation!

How is online scanning performed? After CESAM is started, it collects information about all automatically loaded components. When this process is over and if a corresponding option is enabled, CESAM suggests online file scanning to determine threat levels for each of your files (more on threat levels).

The Online Malware Scanner’s window allows both advanced users and beginners to easily work with it. Advanced users can choose the files they want to submit to our server for analysis. Beginners can simply press “Next” and submit suspicious files automatically.

A large one-time (“office”) database update takes place once per day (we are currently working on reducing this interval as well). However, the important thing is that our malware experts are constantly working with the database, with users’ requests and submitted files. They correct existing records and add new ones. Besides, our database is updated by our users, beta testers, helpers and other members of computer security communities. We strictly supervise and monitor this process to make sure you get valid and high-quality results.

The tests of our online scanner indicated that even those users that use popular commercial and free antivirus applications are not reliably protected against malware. Our experts have witnessed numerous cases when several Trojans and keyloggers resided side by side with an antivirus application and a firewall on users’ systems.

The technology of checking each executable file makes sure such situations do not happen. Unlike many antiviral companies, we have information about both good applications and bad applications. This gives us a competitive advantage. It allows us to avoid saying that the file is “all right” about any unknown file that hasn’t been identified as malware like virtually all antivirus products do. Users now have a single safety criterion – the “Trusted” status. Any other files deserve attention that depends on the level of “trust” set by our server automatically.
