- Your computer work and perform slowly.
- You start seeing annoying pop-up advertisements.
- Your computer had suddenly restarted.
- Your wallpaper, desktop or other settings have been modified and you can’t change them back to the way they were.
- You start seeing the messages that your system is infected from antivirus you have no idea about.
- You got the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) without any reasons.
- You noticed unknown shortcuts on your desktop or icons in the system tray or the quick launch panel.
- The programs that worked just fine before suddenly stopped working.
- You are unable to access some system applications – such as the Task Manager, RegEdit, Control Panel, MSCONFIG, etc.
- The computer or programs are often hanging (freezing) and other system problems happen without reasons.

Windows errors or system warnings occur where they have never appeared before.
- Antivirus applications or your firewall shuts down unexpectedly.
- System restore or backup attempts using standard means fail.
- Your keyboard or mouse behaves unusually.
- Programs start on their own.
- Some dialog windows and menus appear corrupted.
- You start seeing unusual messages that do not look like standard ones (including offensive or humorous ones).
- The system plays unusual sounds.
- The CD-ROM opens and closes unexpectedly.
- No access to your folders, CD-ROM or hard drive.
- Your operating system fails to load.
Internet and Network
- Your Internet connection slowed down and it seems like somebody else is using your connection.
- Additional toolbars or components on the web browser that you didn’t install.
- Your Internet provider complains that your system is sending spam emails, although you never intended to do that. You get a lot of returned emails from people you don't know (such messages usually have headers/subjects like “Mailer-Daemon” or “Mail Delivery System”).
- Abnormal network activities and connections to unknown web sites. Your firewall alerts you to connection attempts from applications you have no idea about.
- Regular Internet connection problems or browser hang-up’s.
- No access to specific sites or other sites opening instead of the right ones.
- Inability to connect to Microsoft’s update server.
- Inability to update your antivirus software.
- Your homepage or other browser settings changes by itself.
- When you type an Internet address incorrectly, instead of seeing an error page you are sent to an unknown “search site” with lots of ads.
- The “Favorites” list in the browser – lots of unknown records that you never added.
Technical
- The Windows loading time has increased.
- Rebooting the system in the safe mode results in system hang-up’s.
- The amount of free RAM has drastically decreased compared with the normal consumption.
- The free hard drive space has rapidly shrunk.
- New unknown files started to appear, including files with randomly generated names.
- You started seeing a lot of processes that have nothing to do with the applications that you installed.
- There are new unknown entries in the MSCONFIG startup or the Startup folder.
- Some files or folders disappeared or their content has visibly changed.
- The size, date and modification time of files changed for unknown reasons (you can check this information by clicking the “Properties” item in the file context menu).
